Our Mission
Capitol Movement’s mission is to make dance accessible and affordable in the DC metropolitan area, with the goal of "building better lives through dance." Through studio classes, workshops, outreach programs, scholarships, and community engagements, we provide opportunities for all dancers, regardless of socioeconomic barriers.
Through our traveling classrooms, we bring quality dance education to schools and community partners in need of arts education programming. Our Adult Dance Company and studio classes offer local business professionals a creative outlet for their passion for dance, empowering them through artistry in motion. Our programs foster confidence, teamwork, commitment, and discipline, uniting dancers from diverse backgrounds. Together, we can contribute to "building better lives through dance."
About CMI
At Capitol Movement we have three primary objectives:
Ensure excellence in our professional performance company.
Develop and enhance the next generation of dancers through our Capitol Movement Studio, youth dance programs, outreach classes, and scholarship opportunities.
Serve the communities of the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Since inception, CMI has worked with the DMV community to fulfill our mission of building better lives through dance. Through a combination of studio classes, dance workshops, three unique companies, outreach programming, scholarship opportunities, and a variety of community engagements, Capitol Movement aims to make dance accessible and affordable in the DC area.
Throughout the year Capitol Movement offers classes for all ages as well as workshops with leading artists in the dance industry. Weekly classes are held on Friday nights at Capitol Movement Studio in Washington, DC.
The Capitol Movement Studio focuses on three primary goals:
Offering a home for outreach students, youth dancers, and adults to attend classes and continue their training.
Creating youth dance programs that provide elite level training and performance opportunities in order to foster creativity and produce a crop of well-seasoned professionals prepared to work in the dance industry.
Serving as a shared home where the CMI organization can train and rehearse for annual dance concerts and other events.
