Adult Company

The Capitol Movement Dance Company is a diverse and vibrant repertory group that provides a platform for local and international choreographers to showcase their innovative work and elevate the quality and integrity of cultural jazz and hip hop dance in Washington, DC. The Company performs concerts brimming with artistically excellent, and diverse pieces that create a unique appeal to experienced dance enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The adult company has been praised for having "captivating energy, enthusiasm, range and skill of dancers" (Michael Clements, Executive Editor of Washington Life Magazine). Pamela Sorensen founder and creator of (acclaimed for getting the "who, what, when, where" of Washington, DC's social and philanthropic scene) also praised the group for giving her a "visceral reaction, which included chills and tears".

Having performed at Washington, DC's John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Lisner Auditorium, and Sidney Harman Center for the Arts, the company is next lined up at the historic Lincoln Theatre. Capitol Movement Dance Company recent credits include:

  • Feature performers on The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage 2017 during Alvin Ailey pairing
  • Headliner dancers for the DC Mayor’s Arts Awards 2016
  • Feature performers on the Main ANA Stage at the 2016 Cherry Blossom Festival
  • Guest performers during DC Funk Parade 2016
  • 2015: Freedom Tour in collaboration with Armed Forces Entertainment, touring Djibouti and Bahrain
  • International Freedom Tour with Armed Forces Entertainment in the Fall of 2015
  • Tinsel Town celebratory performance at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan December 2014
  • Headliner along with 3 Doors Down at Americafest in Okinawa, Japan at Kadena Air Force Base 2014
  • International “Freedom Tour” with Armed Forces Entertainment in the Fall of 2014 and 2012 and the Summer of 2013
  • Guest Halloween performance at iPic Theater in Bethesda, MD 2014
  • Choreographed for a Gloria Estefan and Trisha Yearwood performance at the White House 2013
  • Performed for the unveiling of the new Ferrari F12berlinetta
  • Performed with Grammy Award winners Gerri Allen and Jeff Majors
  • Selected to be on the Performing Artist Roster by the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities from 2010-2013
  • Finalist selected for the 2011 Dance/Metro DC Awards
  • On September 18th, 2010 CMI had the honor of performing at the Congressional Black Caucus Phoenix Awards Dinner where President Barack Obama was Keynote speaker. First Lady Michelle Obama was also in attendance along with Congressmen and Congresswomen and many celebrities.
  • Performed at the Alvin Ailey Studios in NYC for the APAP Convention in January 2010
  • Headliner and guest performances for the Ludacris Foundation, DC Hip Hop Festival, Jazz and Tap Festival, DC Dance Festival, and Metro/DC Dances Concert
