Derrick (D'Veir) Jones Butler

At the age of 13 Derrick decided to pursue dance as a career and he began training in ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, and hip hop. With competitive studio, Sherry's Dance Center, Derrick won numerous awards at The American Dance Awards, Starpower, and DanceXplosion competitions. In addition he won scholarship awards at dance conventions such as West Coast Dance Explosion, Jump, and Tremaine. Derrick has also traveled to Los Angeles, California to train at the Edge Performing Arts Center under Adam Parson, Misha Gabriel, and Kevin Maher. In 2008, Derrick joined Capitol Movement, Inc. as a Pre-Professional Company member and went on to join the Capitol Movement Dance Company in 2009. Derrick began teaching for the Capitol Movement Studio in 2009 and has been a faculty member ever since.

Most recently Derrick interned at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. In this program he worked under the direction of Luam, Rhapsody, Shelia Barker, and Brice Mousett, to name a few. Derrick has performed at the Phoenix Awards Dinner for The Congressional Black Caucus where President Barack Obama was the keynote speaker, as well as with the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders during a halftime show.
