June is Pre-Pro Prep Month!
Pre-Pro hopefuls are encouraged to attend classes in order to experience the multitude of styles and faculty CMI offers, while preparing for auditions. Prep classes are still open to the public and for drop in. See the full schedule here.
The Capitol Movement Pre-Professional Company is comprised of versatile, ambitious dancers, ages 11-17, who aspire to build dance into their profession. Under the direction of Nicole Klett, they train at an elite level in hip-hop, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, tap, and choreography development, preparing for local performances and the next steps in their careers. With access to some of the best choreographers in the business, Pre-Pro shows are unforgettable. The main season runs from July through November each year, culminating in a large professional level production that features the Company. Pre-Pro also perform throughout the winter and spring at a variety of local shows, galas, festivals, and beyond.
2016 marked our 7 year anniversary and to celebrate we kept things fresh. Premiering all brand new, never-before-seen works, sparked by brilliant international and local choreographers, Movement of the People proved that dance is very much alive and thriving in the DMV!

Training and Classes
Most of the dancers in this company train with CMI in addition to other studios, high school dance programs, dance teams, etc. Pre-Professional Company members must take 7 classes per month; at least 2 of which must be at the Capitol Movement Studio. A variety of styles are offered weekly on Friday nights. View the studio schedule here. In addition to the weekly classes, dancers will rehearse with select choreographers for repertoire pieces on Saturday afternoons and evenings, and some Sunday afternoons.
The Pre-Professional Company rehearses six months out of the year - July through
December. Fees are collected in two- or three-month installments between July and
September. These fees cover the full six months of the Program, including:
Weekly classes at Capitol Movement Studio – covers up to eight classes per month, for six months (up to $720 value!)
Multiple performance opportunities at local events such as the DC Hip Hop Festival, Jazz and Tap Festival, Metro DC Dances, Basketball Gala, and others
Rehearsals with highly acclaimed instructors to prepare for commissioned projects
Performance featuring the Pre-Professional Company at a local Theatre in November 2015 (covers costumes and theatre fees)

3-month installment plan: $300 payment in July, August, and September
*Financial assistance is available to dancers in need of aid. For more information, contact the

We recently asked some of our up-and-coming young dancers why they enjoy CMI. Here are a few of their replies:
"I have been a member of Capitol Movement since the beginning and not only have I grown as a dancer, but as a person. I love CMI, it's a part of my life"
"I love CMI! It provides me with opportunities to further my dance experience and improve my skills as a dancer."
"[I dance with CMI] to maintain the styles of dance that I know, with instruction from great teachers, and to become more of a well rounded dancer."
"This company has given me lots of opportunities and chances to dance with some of the best in the DC area."
"My dream is to attend Julliard and just dancing as a competition style dancer doesn't allow me to be as versatile as I should be as a dancer."
"CMI made it evident that they truly are a beneficial dance institution because I felt as if my technique grew tremendously just over the year I have been in the Pre-Professional Company."
"From the videos I have seen on You Tube of Capitol Movement, I believe that this company will supply me with the dance education that I deeply desire."
"Capitol Movement is where my heart is, this company is part of the reason I am who I am today."
