Communications Specialist

Hilary Tone, a California native, is a product of Retter’s Academy of Dance in Los Angeles. She has been teaching and sharing her love of dance since 2005 at studios, workshops, and master classes in California, Arizona, Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Hilary began teaching at Capitol Movement Studios in 2012, and soon after became a member of the Capitol Movement Dance Company in 2013. Since then she has performed for US military overseas in Turkey, Italy, Djibouti, and Bahrain on two tours with Armed Forces Entertainment and Capitol Movement Dance Company. Hilary’s work has been performed in such venues as the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum, and The Fillmore Silver Spring. She specializes in tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and (occasionally) hip-hop, and she is also on faculty as an instructor and choreographer at Buffa’s Dance Studio in Burke, Virginia.

Hilary holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Spanish from Santa Clara University and a Masters of Public Diplomacy from the University of Southern California. By day, she is the Director of Communications for DC Public Schools, where she oversees digital communications for the district including websites, emails, social media, and special projects.
