CMI Receives Grants from Events DC and Capitol Hill Community Foundation

“Dance isn’t just for girls, it’s kinda cool for boys too, but I like when we flip,” Jack 2nd grader at Payne Elementary School (Ward 6).

The entire 2nd grade class in CMI’s Dance Outreach Program at Payne Elementary School told their instructors Ebony Tuzon and Vihky Smith at the end of their last class: “Awww, we don't want it to be over, it’s so fun, we are going to miss you. When are you coming back?”

These quotes are just a few from the end of year feedback session for our students (PK4 – 3rd grade) at Payne Elementary. We thank Learn24 for funding to keep this program free for DCPS students.

To support our citywide summer programming, Capitol Movement (CMI) is honored to be grantees of Events DC’s Community Grant and The Capitol Hill  Community Foundation, a community organization funded entirely by contributions from Capitol Hill neighbors, businesses and friends.

CMI will offer free classes to DC’s Summer Acceleration Academy at Powell Elementary and Pop Up Classes in June and July at Capitol Hill at Onelife Fitness.  Additionally, at Onelife Fitness summer workshops and auditions will be held August 3-4, 2024 for all ages.  Scholarships are available to all classes and workshops so that there is no barrier to dance.

Our mission is to build better lives through dance, said best through the words of Leah in the 3rd grade, “I like how you (instructors) pushed us to be better even though some things were hard.”
