Outreach Program

Capitol Movement was established in 2005 with the vision of “Building Better Lives Through Dance.” This means leveling the playing field with travelling classrooms and opportunities for all to have elite training despite socio-economic backgrounds and differences. Our outreach efforts include program tuition scholarships, camps, classes, and workshops for disadvantaged schools and children, and arranging for DC residents of all ages to patronize our annual dance concerts free of charge. Our training program is unique in that we encourage dancers from all techniques to experience all forms of dance. Our performance company reflects this vision through a cast made up of 30 dancers. We pride ourselves in being a very diverse dance company with dancers of many backgrounds, races, and ages ranging from 5 to 40+.

CMI partners with several community organizations, schools, and programs to further our mission of “Building Better Lives Through Dance.” Past and current youth outreach partners include: Horizons at the Maret School and the DC Public Schools Department of Education, and individual DC schools such as: Jefferson Academy, Payne Elementary, Amidon Bowen Elementary, LAMB, Creative Minds International Public Charter School, Garrison Elementary, Tyler Elementary, Hendley Elementary School, Smothers Elementary School, Wheatley Education Campus, School Within School at Goding and Center City Public Charter School
