The Rhythm of Giving: Help Keep Dance Accessible in DC

As Capitol Movement approaches its landmark 20th anniversary, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment. From November 26 to December 3, we're launching The Rhythm of Giving campaign to secure the future of inclusive dance education in our nation's capital.

For two decades, our studios have been more than just spaces – they've been incubators of dreams, safe havens for artistic expression, and bridges connecting diverse communities. But today, we face a critical challenge. Rising costs in DC threaten the accessibility of our dance spaces, including our beloved home base at Onelife Fitness Capitol Hill, where we've built 19 years of memories and momentum.

Why Your Support Matters Now

The numbers tell a powerful story. In the past year alone, we brought 592 DC Public School students to their first-ever theater experience – students who might never have seen a live dance performance otherwise. With over 90% of our leadership, program staff, and dancers representing Women, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ communities, we're not just teaching dance; we're modeling inclusion and expanding possibilities for the next generation.

The Power of Mentorship

Our unique multigenerational mentorship program creates a chain of inspiration: adult company members mentor apprentice dancers, who in turn become buddies for our youth dancers. This approach has proven transformative, building confidence, fostering leadership, and creating lasting bonds across communities.

Looking Ahead

As we prepare for our 2025 season at the Historic Lincoln Theatre – returning to where our journey began in 2004 – we're planning five groundbreaking performances featuring 40 multigenerational dancers. These shows will reach over 1,000 community members with powerful messages of social and racial justice.

Our Goal

We need to raise $10,000 during The Rhythm of Giving week to secure affordable, accessible rehearsal and performance spaces. This funding will help us:

- Maintain our current studio spaces

- Continue providing high-quality dance instruction to underserved youth

- Ensure our programs remain accessible to all

- Preserve the physical spaces where our community has grown and thrived

Join the Movement

Every contribution during The Rhythm of Giving week brings us closer to securing these vital spaces. Whether you're a longtime supporter or new to our community, your gift helps ensure that diverse, accessible dance education remains alive and moving in DC.

Take action between November 26 and December 3 to be part of this moment in Capitol Movement's story. Together, we can ensure that the next generation of diverse artists has the space to learn, grow, and transform our community through dance.

Join us in keeping the rhythm alive. Every movement matters. Every gift counts.
