21st class includes 134 critical non-profits across the Greater Washington Region

CMI expands youth-focused programming with a slate of pop-up community dance classes offered in June and July

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 30, 2023)—Capitol Movement Inc. (CMI), today announced its participation in the 2023-24 Spur Local class, a program that helps elevate local nonprofits and their work in the community. CMI along with 134 organizations from across  D.C., Maryland, and Virginia will utilize Spur Local–formerly the Catalogue of Philanthropy–resources to continue the critical work of enriching the arts scene, protecting the local environment, and supporting families.

“Capitol Movement is honored and excited to have been accepted into the Spur Local 2023-24 class,” said Stephanie Jojokian, co-founder of CMI. “Having served the D.C. community for 18 years, we know that dance has the power to shift outcomes, and while we embrace the opportunity to learn and grow, we look forward to continuing our service to young artists and dancers, meeting new friends, and finding innovative ways to strengthen our community.”

Over the next 12 months, in partnership with Spur Local, Events DC, Southwest Library, and Studio 52, CMI will expand its investment in recruitment for CMI Kidz by offering summer pop-up dance classes for youth (ages 5-12) in Wards 5 and 6. CMI will also highlight its commitment to re-connecting communities and bringing them out of isolation after the pandemic through recruitment and community outreach.

“Recognizing and amplifying the impact of organizations like the ones in our new class

is at the very heart of Spur Local,” said Matt Gayer, Executive Director of Spur Local.

“These small nonprofits are creating local and hyperlocal change on a community level. The significance of that for our region, and as a model for other regions, cannot be overstated.”

Over the next four years, Spur Local will offer participating organizations free skill and network building resources, in addition to being highlighted on Spur Local’s website, social media, blog, and at events. The 89 print nonprofit partners will also be featured in the annual print and digital Catalog, a Spur Local publication.
